Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Usain Bolt For Only Watch 2017

Since 2005, the house of Swiss Hublot has participated in the biennial charity auction Only Watch, with one-of-a-kind timepiece designed to benefit research on Duchenne muscular dystrophy. For 2017, Hublot has decided to offer a one-off version of its Big Bang Unico Sapphire dedicated to champion sprinter Usain Bolt. As Ricardo Guadalupe, CEO of Hublot, explained, there is no one who better symbolizes victory, courage, and determination – crucial values of dedicated researchers who are on the mission to triumph over this degenerative disease.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Usain Bolt Watch is a fully transparent watch made out of sapphire, the third hardest mineral known to men. Sapphire is, therefore, one of the most difficult materials to machine. In choosing this material, Hublot conveyed a secret message, that of pushing the limits of possibility even further, and always believing that all obstacles can be overcome.

For the 2017 edition, Hublot was inspired by one of the Usain Bolt’s favorite models. The special new model is adorned with Jamaican sprinter’s signature gold nuances, and enlivened with vibrant green highlights. It comes in a 45 mm Big Bang case, paired with a transparent strap. However, the piece will be auctioned with a second strap, in in yellow-gold color calfskin, featuring the silhouette of the Jamaican flag.

The transparent sapphire case is topped with a polished sapphire bezel with yellow gold screws, crown, and pushers. The watch is powered by the Hublot caliber HUB1242, which is a UNICO Manufacture Self-winding flyback chronograph movement with column wheel. Visible on the dial, which is also made from noble yellow gold, is the chronograph counter at 9 o'clock that bears the silhouette of the "Lightning Bolt" and his iconic victory sign.

Hublot Big Bang Unico Sapphire Usain Bolt for Only Watch 2017 is accompanied by a PUMA t-shirt signed by Usain Bolt. Hublot has also promises to organize a meet & greet between the winner of the bid and the fastest man of the world.
